study questions 2

1a. They began their subjection of the women and children by taking them away from the Indians to use them and ill use them, eating the food the provided with their sweat and toil.

2a. For every Spaniard killed they killed 100 Indians.

3a. The divers were treated very badly, when they were at camp they were tied up and they were forced to dive all day and be underwater for minutes at a time. Infernal and desperate.

4a. they took advantage of the Indians because they knew they could out smart them and if that didn't work they knew that they had better and stronger weapons and could always just kill them if they stepped out of line. The Spaniard regard the Indians as workers and nothing more, they don't even consider them people.

1b. Because they are FAT!!!

2b. Because they considered the Indians lesser them, so they thought it was ok to kill them.

3b. If they didn't die from suffocation or getting eaten by a shark they get pneumonia from diving into the cold water so much and they end up dieing coughing up blood.

4b. It was for money and riches.  de las Casas was the same up until 1515 when he realized what he was doing was wrong.

vocab 8/22/11

Callous - adjective - showing or having an insensitive and cruel disregard for others - his callous comment when he was getting pulled over made him get arrested. 



Capricious - adjective - given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behavior - because he was so capricious he bet all his money on a bluff because the mouse in the corner was eating cheese.



Cajole - verb - persuade someone to do something by sustained coaxing or flattery - the lawyer can cajole you to do anything he wants.



Censure - verb - express severe disapproval of (someone or something), typically in a formal statement - I was censured the parents that would allow a baby to run around with a machete. 



Catalyst - noun - a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without itself undergoing any permanent
chemical change. - there was a catalyst in the reaction that they did not think of so the fire burned faster



Caustic - adjective - sarcastic in a scathing and bitter way - his insult was very caustic so he got slapped.


Capitulate - verb - cease to resist an opponent or an unwelcome demand; surrender - he capitulated to him because the other guy was awesome and he sucked.


Celestial - adjective - positioned in or relating to the sky, or outer space as observed in astronomy - the stars are celestial.



Catharsis - noun - the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions. - his Catharsis was so immense that the world blew up. 


Carping - verb - complain or find fault continually, typically about trivial matters - the carping about running the same thing over and over again was so bad the teachers head blew up.
